Women's Leadership Council

Our Purpose
is to bring about long lasting change in the community through philanthropy, advocacy and volunteerism. The Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) specifically promotes initiatives that support lifelong learning to empower our community.
Our History
began in 2008, when a small group of women proposed that Pikes Peak United Way form a Women’s Leadership Council (as other communities have done) to address specific community issues. As we reviewed the issues in our community, we chose to focus our efforts on initiatives associated with life-long learning.
Membership
is open to female donors of Pikes Peak United Way’s Leaders In Giving (LIG). Leaders make their annual contribution of $1,000 or more through the community campaign and understand giving at this level represents an investment in our community, where the returns are paid in a better quality of life for all.
Leaders In Giving receive our WLC newsletter and have the opportunity to
attend any of the quarterly council meetings throughout the year.
WLC Jewel members make an additional donation to the WLC above their minimum $1,000 leadership gift to receive additional benefits, including:
- Special recognition in the Leaders In Giving annual booklet
- Eligibility to serve as committee co-chairs
- WLC intranet access
- Eligibility to serve on the Jewel Funding Panel
All members are encouraged to step-up to the Jewel-level membership. Jewel member donation levels are as follows:
- Diamond Level - additional $1,000+ donation
- Emerald Level - additional $500 donation
- Ruby Level - additional $250 donation
- Sapphire Step-Up Program - three year step-up commitment
- 1st year: $100 donation
- 2nd year: $175 donation
- 3rd year: $250 donation
Calendar of Events
Council Meetings are an opportunity for the entire council to meet together and hear from speakers such as Dr. Barbara Swaby, a national advocate for reading and literacy, or Regina A. Lewis, Ph.D., an authentic and transformational leader. It’s a time for socializing, inspiration and motivation.
Special Events are always a source of entertainment for our members. DINE UNITED in April and the popular Shopportunity in November are great ways to meet new women, introduce potential members and guests, and have a great time while supporting the WLC.
Lunch-n-Learns are new to the WLC this past year and present interesting topics for women throughout the community.
WLC Committee Meetings are a great way to connect on a deeper level with the WLC. Committees set goals to help the WLC achieve its mission of promoting lifelong learning throughout the community and meet various times throughout the year.
