Our Purpose

is to bring about long lasting change in the community through philanthropy, advocacy and volunteerism. The Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) specifically promotes initiatives that support lifelong learning to empower our community.

Our History

began in 2008, when a small group of women proposed that Pikes Peak United Way form a Women’s Leadership Council (as other communities have done) to address specific community issues. As we reviewed the issues in our community, we chose to focus our efforts on initiatives associated with life-long learning.

Membership

is open to female donors of Pikes Peak United Way’s Leaders In Giving (LIG).  Leaders make their annual contribution of $1,000 or more through the community campaign and understand giving at this level represents an investment in our community, where the returns are paid in a better quality of life for all.

Leaders In Giving receive our WLC newsletter and have the opportunity to
attend a variety of events throughout the year.

WLC Jewel members make an additional donation to the WLC Jewel Fund above their minimum $1,000 leadership gift to receive additional benefits, including:

  • Special recognition in the Leaders In Giving annual booklet
  • Eligibility to serve as committee co-chairs
  • WLC intranet access
  • Eligibility to serve on the Jewel Funding Panel

All members are encouraged to step-up to the Jewel-level membership.  Jewel member donation levels are as follows:

  • Diamond Level - additional $1,000+ donationJewel Members
  • Emerald Level - additional $500 donation
  • Ruby Level - additional $250 donation

WLC Events

Lunch-n-Learns present interesting lifelong learning topics ranging from issues of communication styles and developing leadership abilities to simply learn more about local efforts in our community.

Volunteer Opportunities vary in nature and availability. Our opportunities to volunteer center around our WLC purpose of supporting lifelong learning.

Fundraisers are always a source of entertainment for our members. DINE UNITED in April and the popular Shopportunity in November are great ways to meet new women, introduce potential members and guests, and have a great time while financially supporting WLC.

WLC Committee Meetings are a great way to connect on a deeper level with the WLC. Committees meet at various times throughout the year and set goals to help WLC achieve its mission of promoting lifelong learning throughout the community.
